More than 1,200 individual coffee farmers contribute to the Gaturiri Factory, located near Karatina Town in central Kenya. The country’s tallest mountain, Mount Kenya, lies only a few miles to the north. Many of the trees in the area were planted in the 1950s, and the cooperative associated with the factory has offered education and training programs for many years. The cooperative is also distinguished by its large share of female coffee producers; women contribute nearly half of the annual harvest.
