Women of Coffee: Colombia

About Siruma:

Women of Coffee: Colombia comes from Siruma, a Colombia-based exporter founded in 2018 by Valentina Duque, who grew up on coffee farms and built her own path through the industry before starting a company structured around sustainability, supporting the producers they buy from rather than just moving volume.

The word “Siruma” is from the Wayuu language and translates to “Heaven” or “Sky”. It may seem like a stretch to hold a company up next to something as vast as the sky, but Valentina’s vision since she started is for Siruma to live up to that comparison.

Sourced from women growers across Caldas, Cauca, and Tolima, regions Siruma chose precisely because they'd been overlooked by exporters, importers, and roasters alike.

Getting there took years of fieldwork and the coffee in your cup is the result of that work — traceable to the women who grew it, priced to reflect what it's worth.

Why we love our Women of Coffee Series:

Our Women of Coffee series is an ongoing way to uplift our global coffee community. This special edition series highlights women producers from around the world, featuring different origins throughout the year.

The producers are responsible for both the household and the farm, as most of their husbands have emigrated and never returned. Some are widows, and others live with their families, but they are the ones who manage their own farms.

We are proud to support these remarkable women in coffee.

Are you really roasting to order?

Yes! We roast your coffee after you order to guarantee you receive it at peak freshness. On rare occasions, we may have small batches of pre-roasted coffee available—this is always clearly indicated on the product page under the roasting schedule section. Either way, you're getting exceptionally fresh coffee.

How is your coffee sourced?

The production of exceptional coffees is a collaborative, meticulous and multi-faceted effort. All coffees are sourced in freshly harvested lots through direct relationships with producers and cooperatives committed to quality and sustainable business practices.

We travel to origin throughout the year, exploring new coffee sources, checking in with cherished producers, and offering premiums for quality. The long-standing partnerships we nurture are built upon trust—trust that our producers will convey to us what they need to thrive and trust that we will do everything we can to support them. Visit Our Company page to learn more about our sourcing practices.

Are all your coffees organic?

Most of the coffee that we source annually is certified Organic. These coffees go into classic blends like Blueboon, Toketee, Owl's Howl, Banner Dark, Crown Point, and Hunky Dory.

On our single origin menu, Worka Chelbessa from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia is certified Organic. We purchase other single origin coffees yearly with Organic certifications but are often sold as conventional coffees.

How long does your coffee stay fresh?

Sightglass coffee tastes best up to six weeks after the roast date printed on the back of the sealed bag. Once opened, we recommend you use the coffee within two weeks for optimal freshness. Coffee will taste best when ground immediately before brewing.

How many cups are in a bag?

Using the recipe that we use in our café, each 12oz bag makes 17 cups of coffee: just the right amount for one person to use in two weeks or for a pair of coffee drinkers to enjoy in a week.

Each 2LB bag makes 45 cups of coffee - just the right amount for one person to use in 3 weeks for two people.

Each 5LB bag makes 113 cups of coffee - just the right amount for one person to use in 8 weeks for two people.

Our Mission

Responsible Sourcing

Our coffee is sourced directly from producers worldwide who share our devotion to freshly harvested coffee and sustainable farming. We proudly offer USDA-certified organic coffee.

Small Batch
Roasting

We take great pride in the art of coffee roasting. We understand that each cup of coffee is unique and warrants the utmost attention to detail. That’s why we roast only in small batches.

Sustainability & Community

We believe that by collaborating with small holder farmers, we can help them achieve sustainable and profitable farming practices that benefit both the environment and their communities.
